Tuesday, February 20th, 2007I found someone out there with more artistic talent than me who seems to agree with my opinion about MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann: Chris Muir.
More Good Stuff from VDH
Sunday, January 14th, 2007If you’re not regularly reading Victor Davis Hanson, you’re letting some of the best commentary on the War on Terror pass by. If you disagree with him, at least he makes you think.
Here’s some good thinking to get your 2007 underway.
Explanation Deferral
Saturday, December 23rd, 2006I think I owe my buddy Jim a longer explanation regarding what I think about Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and its place in the overall GWOT. It’s going to take an essay-length explanation (maybe more). The essay would only be my opinion. . . it would take months to do the research on the background facts. I realize I may owe you all that, too.
It’ll take time. Something tells me the war won’t be over by the time I get around to it. . . !
Red vs Blue
Sunday, December 17th, 2006I was reading one of my friend Jim’s posts (did I mention Jim is the guy who provides me with this blog? Thanks, Jim!), something he wrote reminded me of something. Back in the day when we were in junior high school together and would have voted for Ronald Reagan (pbuh) had we been old enough, we noted that Reagan had carried the blue states. As I thought and thought, I could have sworn he carried the blue states in 1980 and in 1984; and that Bush 41 had carried the blue states in 1988, but not enough states were blue in 1992. So why in the world in 2000, 2004, and 2006 were we looking at Republicans carrying red states?
Jim found the probable answer here. Way to go, ol’ buddy! How’d you do that, though? Google?
Black and White World
Sunday, December 17th, 2006I just finished reading Cox & Forkums’ third book of their editorial cartoons, Black & White World III. As usual, it’s great stuff! I say that because it makes me think about things that I enjoy contemplating, and they usually agree with my viewpoints, though not always, especially when it comes to the role of religion with regard to politics.
You can check out their work on their website at http://www.coxandforkum.com/. If you like what you see and you want to buy for yourself, you can find it on Amazon -dot – com. I recommend any of their three books.
I first found them through my friend Matt Hoy‘s website about four or five years ago, and I’ve been checking in with them ever since.
Post-Election Day
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006I wish I could have commented on the election earlier. I wish I could comment on the results now. Oh, well. It looks like all I can do now is try to shift my investment portfolio away from defense and aerospace and into alternative energy and probably federally-backed anything.
I wouldn’t be long on oil and natural gas stocks. Futures, maybe. . . .
Ramblings
Saturday, November 4th, 2006The election is the subject of almost all the news. I find it kind of a waste of time, and wish there were other things to watch on the news. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I voted absentee three weeks ago.
Of course, I voted in St Louis, so Lord only knows whether my absentee ballot will get counted. I’d have a better chance having my vote counted there if I were dead.
Hey! Maybe I’ll watch something other than the news on TV. There’s a thought that almost never occurs to me!
Is it just me, or are AFN (Armed Forces Network) infomercials getting better/funnier? Maybe I’ve been overseas too long.
Human Capital
Wednesday, November 1st, 2006My friend Jim wrote an inspiring essay about immigration. The nucleus of his thesis (in my own humble opinion) is very close to my personal belief that people drive the world to wealth. I don’t think I could have said it any better. It’s not just America benefitting from immigration. South Korea and to some extent Western Europe have benefitted from the influx.
I do think immigrants should learn English. I also think Americans should learn at least one other language. Spanish serves well in most of the US, but I think we’d better start learning Mandarin, because the Chinese seem to be catching on to this whole market economy thing, allowing their citizens to drive them to wealth as well. And I certainly have grave reservations about the nature of much of the Middle Eastern immigration into Europe, although I did meet many who adjusted well to Germany.
The Red Horseman Approacheth
Sunday, October 8th, 2006Revelations 5:4 (NIV) — Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
Okay, so a nuclear weapon isn’t necessarily the latest sign of an impending apocalypse. Still, methinks it’s not a good sign.
11/0515L Oct 2006 Update: Doubts surface as to the veracity of North Korea’s claim. But on the other hand, the "Chonger" seems to be volunteering to test another one more openly. Notice he doesn’t bother telling publicly where he plans to launch his missile. I suspect that if he’s weaponized a missile, he’ll probably have it launched into the ocean for a spectacular airburst. I just hope he mentions where its going so we can divert sea and air traffic! Of course, this brings up the possibility of testing the ABM system as well. . . .
